My Personal Journey through grief and darkness to compassion, appreciation and and love
"Looking back on my personal CBT journey, I decided to start the CBT process after the break down of my relationship and although I now realise this was the trigger, I had long recognised that I had a deep pain within me that needed addressing as well as the grief that I was carrying around after my break up. Eleanor was ready and willing to help me find my way and to help me grow both emotionally and spiritually.
CBT has helped me in so many more ways than I expected it too; it has literally changed my life. At the beginning of my journey, although I had obviously read and been told that only you can change things from within, I did have an expectation that Eleanor would fix my problems for me! Although I did not realise it at the time, I was carrying around a lot of fear, doubt and inadequacy issues. Despite being told that I was beautiful on the outside, deep down I did not believe any of it until I went through the CBT process with Eleanor. With CBT, I started looking within, and addressing issues there which in turn change absolutely everything externally. I could have only started there!
During my CBT journey, I went through a very painful time, where at one point I felt like there was an ‘ocean’ between me and feeling positive again. Only through Eleanor did I realise that these events are often highly underrated opportunities for emotional and spiritual growth and that I could use it to help me look at other events in my life in a new light. My entire life shifted after this! It took going from what felt like the very bottom to go upwards to my life today which I love and have so many things to be grateful and appreciative about.
I have made many profound changes in my life including showing others and myself much more compassion and feeling very grateful and appreciative for what I do actually have. Another important change that I am now able to do, which is transformational, is to shift my thinking from negative to positive, I used to find this very difficult but it is now a much easier and quicker process.
I have also come to realise that my happiness could only come from me, not from anybody or anything else. I think we often believe we are already aware of this, but it only when this realisation takes place from your heart that you know it to be true. Although it is a lifelong ongoing process, I am beginning to truly love myself and from there I can take the steps to fully and unconditionally love the other important people in my life. I have developed this love through self-nurturing statements that are so simple and yet have such a profound effect. They can change your sub-conscious mind and make new patterns that change your thinking and nurture the soul. This was a big step for me, transforming negative internal thoughts into healthy positive ones. CBT can instill a positive and healthy self-image and belief system, which can literally change your life!
The most valuable tools that I gained from CBT were first and foremost to keep a journal, this has been invaluable to me as I have been able to keep looking over my personal journey and work from that basis. I write letters to help me move on with my personal journey too as this gives me the focus to address whatever I am dealing with and keeps it on record. I read books that have meaning to me on my journey and I spend time in quiet contemplation and prayer. I used to pray to desperately ask for things – now I only pray in thanks!
With Eleanor’s help, my confidence and self-esteem have grown so much; I have let go of so much of the fear surrounding my age and not having a partner and I honestly never believed that I could or would ever feel this way. CBT has helped me face lots of life’s challenges through a positive belief and image system along with compassion, which features every step of the way.
It is also unbelievable to see how much all of my relationships have improved, I can honestly say from my heart that I feel so much love for my family and friends that it brings a tear to my eye whenever I think about it and give thanks for it. They have also noticed as well and I can actually feel their love for me and see how they all only want the best for me, it is such a blessing to feel this.
They can also see that I just want to live for the moment and enjoy my times with them. This gives me the strength and motivation to keep building upon my progress, as there is no way back, I could never go back to what I was before, I love my life just as it is and the only way is forward.
I believe that it was Eleanor’s approach alone that changed everything for me, the love and gentleness that emanate from her, her amazing intuition, the total non-judgment of any situation. The fact that I could turn to Eleanor in my deepest and darkest hour and her response to me was so helpful and full of love, I will never forget the gifts that she has given to me. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to have met her and for her to have helped me. All of the tools that she has given me for life resonate within me.
I would recommend CBT because it changed my life completely both internally and externally and when I first embarked on my journey, I did not believe that anything could do that, I did not believe it to be possible until I experienced it for myself.
To anyone, thinking of starting CBT, my advice and encouragement would be to go along with an open mind and heart and try to have some belief and faith that it can help you in some way; It will take courage and small steps at first but with commitment, you can change your life and that in turn will change the lives of those around you."
